Carpet Turns Brown After Cleaning

O ccasionally a brownish discoloration appears on a carpet or rug after it has been cleaned.

What causes carpet browning. When i was in grade school a common experiment was taking a stock of celery and placing it in a cup of food coloring. Recently i cleaned a wool rug in far west utah where all the fringes had been turned brown due to what is called wicking. Keep it there a half hour or so and then work on drying it again.

These stains occur if there is too much cleaning solution and water used during the cleaning process. Those brown spots and patches that occur after a deep carpet cleaning are a direct result of carpet wicking. Then try pouring some ammonia and white vinegar into the brown stain. They should be able to get the remaining high ph out of the carpet bring things back into balance and get it looking great again.

The bht is fine as long as it has a way to air out. You may notice brown stains on your carpet after a thorough carpet cleaning. The ammonia and white vinegar may help to pull the mildew out. This is basically a reaction that your carpet has all the time if it has butylhydroxyltoluene or bht in the carpet padding or glue.
